JHC RABBONIM AND SPEAKERS
Rabbi Naftali Portnoy received his S’micha Yoreh Yoreh Yadin Yadin from Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim, the Rabbinical Seminary of America. Since 1988 he has served as Co-Director and Senior Lecturer at the Jewish Heritage Center of Queens and Long Island. Together with Co-Director Rabbi Moshe Turk, Rabbi Portnoy has developed the "Center" into an internationally renowned Kiruv center which has reached out to more than 15,000 Jewish Adults throughout the Metropolitan New York area. More than 1,500 of their students have become fully Shomer Torah u’Mitzvos and over 8,000 have made significant strides towards deepening their commitment to Torah Judaism. Rabbi Portnoy has a profound grasp of psak halacha and confers extensively with g’dolei poskim both in America and Eretz Yisrael on varied and delicate matters of halacha, especially as they apply to baalei teshuva.

Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald is an alumnus of the Telshe Yeshiva in Wickliffe, Ohio. He is the Director of Camp Sternberg, a Member of the Board of Governors of the OU, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Women’s League Community Residences and has founded a yeshiva for at-risk teens in Monsey, New York. Ronnie has been a Rabbi and friend to U.S. Presidents and has rubbed shoulders with a wide array of Prime Ministers, international political figures, and business leaders. He is an Orthodox Jewish activist who has been involved in an astonishing array of unorthodox and covert advocacy for Jewish causes and captive Jews, including obtaining exit visas for Russian Refuseniks Carmella Reisz and Natan Sharansky.
In 2003, Rabbi Ben Tzion Shafier left a successful career in Chinuch to found Tiferes Bnei Torah, a yeshiva program for working people and created the highly popular: TheShmuz.com. Aside from having thousands of members of TheShmuz.com, The Shmuz is also broadcast on Aish.com ,TorahAnytime.com, Israel National Radio, and is syndicated in more than 15 papers. Each Shmuz is heard by over 10,000 people throughout the world. From Yerushlayim to Sydney and from South Africa to South America, The Shmuz is now bringing Torah and Hashkafah to Jews everywhere. There are now over 200 Shmuzin and five books in the various Shmuz series. Rabbi Shafier, a father of six, and grandfather of two, lives in Monsey New York where people from across the globe seek his advice on work, family and personal issues.
Rabbi Yosef Singer, Menahel of Mesivta Chofetz Chaim in Queens is a dynamic speaker, respected machanech and sought after shadchan. Additionally, he has endeared himself to thousands of Jewish Heritage Center hotel guests, having been the uplifting Baal Musaf of our Yomim Noraim Hotel programs for nearly two decades. To all of his diverse roles he brings a wealth of Torah knowledge, an insightful grasp of people; particularly today's youth, and a warmth, humor and dynamism which empower his talks, discussions and interactions. Not limiting contact with his talmidim to their High School years alone, Rabbi Singer maintains a relationship and haspa'ah with many of his alumni for years after. As a result of this, he has branched out into the arena of shadchanus , becoming heavily involved in, and highly successful at, setting up and guiding young people into successful matches.
Rabbi Dr. David Hertzberg is Principal of the Yeshiva of Flatbush Middle Division. While at Yeshiva University he learned under Rav Herschel Schachter Shlita, and was a member of his Kollel. He holds a Master of Arts in International Politics from New York University, a doctorate in Modern World History from St. John’s University and is an Instructor of History at Touro College. His research has focused on intelligence sharing in counter-terrorism, diplomacy and epidemiology. Rabbi Hertzberg writes a monthly column for the Jewish Press on leadership lessons from the parsha. He is involved with SAFE, and runs workshops for students and parents on the dangers of drugs, drinking, bullying, Internet and peer pressure.
Rabbi Dr. Joel Rosenshein has Semicha from Rabbi Soleveichik at Yeshiva Yitzchok Elcohonon and is founder of P'TACH. He is the former director of Mishkan and presently a consultant to RCCS and Vaad L'Hatzolas Nidchei Yisroel. He is in private practice and deals with marriages, children and abuse cases.
Dov Wolowitz, successful entrepreneur and world renowned philanthropist has been, for many decades, the "go to" address for individuals and organizations with visions and needs. From Yeshiva Sh'or Yoshuv (which he helped found and is currently Chairman of the Board) to BMG in Lakewood (for whom he put together their very first major dinner campaign), to Aish Hatorah, Ohr Somayach and Heritage House in Yerushalayim, the list of Organizations for whom Dov has toiled for goes on and on. We are honored that Dov often says his favorite accomplishment has been the founding of our very own Jewish Heritage Center of Queens and Long Isand.

Each Yom Tov we have well known Shadchanim from different communities on site and available to meet. Workshops and forums for singles and parents of singles provide insights and advice. Our shadchanim follow up aggressively after Yom Tov to advocate on behalf of those they meet at our Programs. In fact, many successful shidduchim have come about through these Yom Tov Hotel programs!
This Shavuos we are proud to announce that our Shidduch Program will be led by MRS. ADINA REICH,
of Gateways Connections. Adina is in her second decade of successful shidduch making and is well-known for her innovative and forward thinking approach to singles, dating and shidduchim in general. She works for Gateways Connections and volunteers, as well, for Sheefa Links and Invei Hagefen. Known for running successful singles events and Shabbatons that are fun, non-pressured and well attended, Adina lives in the 5 Towns with her husband and 4 children.

The Preschool Program and Day Camp are under the experienced direction of Mrs. Miriam Sklar and Mrs. Lorey Friedman, who have been providing years of exciting, creative and professionally run programs and activities for younger children. An abundance of indoor and outdoor space, together with our warm and very dedicated staff guarantee our children the time of their lives so their parents can get the most out of their davening and shiurim on Yom Tov.

Rabbi Dovid Schwartz received his S’micha from Mesivta Rabbi Chaim Berlin – Kollel Gur Aryeh, After studying at the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Rabbi Schwartz first taught at Beth Medrash L'Torah in Skokie, Illinois, where he contributed to the yeshiva's publications Likutei P'shatim and Ner Shmuel. Rabbi Schwartz went on to teach at Mesivta Tiferes Torah on Staten Island, the Be'er Hagolah Institute and Priority One before joining the rabbinical staff of the Jewish Heritage Center of Queens and Long Island in 1995, where he currently serves as Associate Director. He oversees the Center’s individualized Torah Tutorial program and the popular Tuesday night lecture series. Absorbing approaches from the eclectic schools of machsheves Yisroel elucidated by such brilliant Torah personalities as Rav Yitzchok Hutner, Rav Chaim Shmulevitz and Rav Shimon Schwab, z"l, Rabbi Schwartz's presentations are known for their depth, clarity and wit.
Rabbi Label Lam, co-founder of Foundations for Jewish Learning and a renowned orator, has been a popular Senior Lecturer at Jewish Heritage Center Retreats for many years. A former full-time lecturer for Arachim Seminars, Rabbi Lam has been inspiring businessmen and college students for Ohr Somayach International and Hamayan Institute for nearly two decades. He brings to his lectures his rich life experience, a profound wit and an infectious love for K’lal Yisrael. His insights on the weekly Parsha are received by more than 15,000 weekly subscribers and can be found at torah.org. Rabbi Lam is currently a practicing life coach specializing in clinical hypnosis.
Rabbi Yaakov Salomon, C.S.W., is a noted psychotherapist in private practice in Brooklyn, New York for over twenty-five years. He is a Senior Lecturer and the Creative Director of Aish Hatorah's Discovery Productions. He is also an editor and author for the Artscroll Publishing Series and a member of the Kollel of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath. His speaking, writing and musical talents have delighted audiences from Harvard to Broadway and everything in between. Rabbi Salomon is the author of the book Salomon Says, co-author with Rabbi Noah Weinberg of the bestselling book What the Angel Taught You: Seven Keys to Life Fulfillment, and is also the co-producer of the highly-acclaimed film "Inspired.”

Dr. Robert Wolf is a psychotherapist specializing in working with children, adolescents, and couples. He has served as both president and member of the Board of Trustees of numerous national and international organizations. He is a Holocaust Scholar, and has authored “The Bugs are Burning,” detailing the role of Eastern Europeans in the Shoah, as well as many other books on a wide range of topics.

Mrs. Judy Bodner, originally from Columbus, OH, is a certified life coach specializing in Dating, Relationships and building Self Esteem. In addition to her private practice, she regularly lectures on these critical topics. Judy has been a successful shadchan for over 20 years and runs many successful singles events. She is on the staff of Ohr Naava, giving classes at Ohr Naava, Ateres Naava and Bnot Chaya Academy as well as providing one-on-one counseling to their students. Judy and her husband Pinny reside in Monsey, NY and have much nachas from their children and grandchildren. She encourages our guests to send her before Yom Tov any resumes they may have jbodner@optonline.net so she can look them over even before meeting at the hotel.
